AirGuard is designed to identify small tracking devices, such as Samsung SmartTags or Tiles, that may be monitoring your location and sharing it with third parties. If a tracker is detected, you will receive a notification.
While iPhones can alert you if an AirTag is being used to track you, there are currently no similar protections against Samsung SmartTags or Tile trackers. AirGuard provides an additional layer of security to help you feel more secure in your everyday life.
Using the scanning feature, you can regularly check your surroundings for hidden trackers. You also have the option to search for a specific tracker and receive feedback on how close you are to locating it. Once you reach 100%, the device has been pinpointed.
If there is no tracking attempt detected, the app operates quietly in the background without interruptions.
How does AirGuard operate?
- AirGuard utilizes Bluetooth scans from your iPhone to pinpoint Samsung SmartTags and Tile trackers. Each detected tracker is stored locally on your device.
- If a tracker is identified multiple times through scans in different locations, the app notes these occurrences and compares the various locations for accuracy.
- If a tracker is spotted at least three times in distinct locations (to rule out proximity to neighbors), you will receive a notification alert.
All tracking detection processes take place solely on your device, ensuring that your private information, including location data and tracker IDs, remains secure and does not leave your device.
Who are we?
- We are affiliated with the Technical University of Darmstadt in Germany and are part of a scientific research initiative within the Secure Mobile Networking Lab.
